PM Urges Timely Completion of Transport Projects

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged that transport infrastructure projects must stay on schedule unless there are justified reasons for delays. This directive underscores the strategic importance of these developments for both economic growth and national security. Key infrastructure projects, including the expressway projects in Ca Mau province (from Ca Mau to Cai Nuoc and from Cai Nuoc to Dat Mui), along with the Hon Khoai route, are expected to enhance regional connectivity, boost economic growth, and reinforce the safeguarding of Vietnam’s southwestern maritime frontier upon completion. On Phu Quoc Island, the DT975 corridor is being developed as a crucial component of the island's future transport network. This route connects Phu Quoc International Airport with the APEC Convention Centre, featuring a 62-metre cross-section with 10 motor vehicle lanes and an integrated light rail transit (LRT) line. The Prime Minister's directive also touches upon financial considerations. Heavy reliance on the state budget and conventional bank lending could place considerable pressure on the financial system, necessitating the development of new and sustainable funding sources from both domestic and international capital markets. This emphasis on timely project completion reflects Vietnam's commitment to leveraging infrastructure development to achieve its economic and security objectives.
