Vietnam National Assembly Convenes Special Session to Accelerate Policy Making

Vietnam's National Assembly convened the preliminary and official sessions of its first extraordinary meeting of the 16th legislature in Hanoi on August 3rd. The session is scheduled to run until August 24th, with August 25th set as a reserve day. In his opening address, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Trần Thanh Mẫn, emphasized the importance of legal enforcement, stating, "Ensure that laws enter people's lives right from the first day of their effect." This underscores the intention to expedite the policy-making process under Vietnam's one-party system, aiming to accelerate economic growth and maintain social stability. The extraordinary session was convened to deliberate on key government policy issues, including the action plan for implementing Conclusion 75-KL/TW by the Politburo. Prior to this, on August 2nd, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the National Assembly held a meeting with team leaders, heads, and deputy heads in charge of National Assembly delegations from provinces and cities. The 22nd National Foreign Affairs Conference was also held, indicating the National Assembly's alignment with these developments to speed up policy implementation. While Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth in recent years, it also faces challenges in its relationship with China and domestic socio-economic issues. In this context, the National Assembly's convening of an extraordinary session for rapid legislative and policy-making is drawing significant attention both domestically and internationally.
