Sara Duterte Departs for The Hague Amid Impeachment Trial, Cites No Public Funds Used

Vice President Sara Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands, as her impeachment trial enters its third week. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has stated that no public funds were used to fund her travels across Europe. According to reports, Duterte's defense team informed her of the Senate impeachment court's decision to subpoena her financial records, as well as those of her husband, Manases Carpio. Duterte reportedly replied, "okay, you know what to do naman." The OVP had previously announced that Duterte would be out of the country from July 16 to July 31. This visit to The Hague is significant as the Vice President has made multiple trips there following the arrest and detention of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity. The Palace has also confirmed that Duterte has been granted travel authority for personal trips to Qatar, Germany, the UK, and Northern Ireland.
