Quezon City Suspends Classes, Implements Liquor Ban for Marcos' 5th SONA

Classes in all levels, both public and private schools, in Quezon City will be suspended on Monday, July 27, in observance of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA). This was announced by the local government on Thursday, citing Executive Order (EO) No. 23, Series of 2026. The SONA will be held at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. In anticipation of the event, the LGU advised of possible road closures that could affect motorists, public transport users, and students. The EO stated, “Classes shall be suspended in all levels for both private and public schools in Quezon City in view of the State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. All residents are enjoined to listen to the Sona of the President of the Republic of the Philippines.” Furthermore, the LGU will implement a liquor ban across the city on Monday, starting from 12:01 a.m. until 6 p.m. A separate EO stated, “The residents and visitors of Quezon City may be affected by acts [caused] by intoxication, which could negatively impact the peace and order of the community and general public.” The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday confirmed that the QC LGU granted permission to multi-sectoral groups Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Sanlakas, and Better Brighter to hold a rally along Commonwealth Avenue on Monday. However, the PNP noted that applications from other protest groups are still pending approval. The PNP is set to deploy over 20,000 personnel for security and safety measures during Marcos’ 5th Sona.
