Mae Sin Community Supports Reservoir Construction for Fruit Orchard Irrigation

Residents in Mae Sin district, northern Thailand, are taking a proactive role in developing crucial infrastructure to support regional agriculture. The community strongly backs the construction of the "Huai Ka Tat" reservoir, a project designed to provide irrigation water for fruit orchards spanning 2,860 rai (approximately 4.58 square kilometers). The planned reservoir is expected to have a storage capacity of 2.15 million cubic meters of water annually. This substantial storage capacity is anticipated to ensure a stable water source essential for the growth of fruit trees, particularly in areas where water scarcity intensifies during the dry season. The project is expected to mitigate damage to crops caused by drought and contribute to the stabilization of agricultural production and increased farmer income. Mae Sin district is known for its thriving fruit cultivation, but in recent years, changes in rainfall patterns due to climate change and subsequent water shortages have become significant challenges for agricultural management.
