Vietnam, Mexico Boost Economic Ties, Eyeing New Partnership
Vietnam and Mexico are exploring a new partnership framework to enhance economic connectivity, focusing on agriculture, the marine economy, and digitalization. Both nations aim to contribute to regional peace and development through strengthened bilateral ties.
Vietnam and Mexico are looking to build a substantive and effective relationship and establish a new partnership framework that matches the level of bilateral ties. Vietnam supports Mexico's efforts to bolster ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), contributing to peace, cooperation, and development between the two regions. Vietnam wishes to further enhance agricultural cooperation with Mexico and is ready to create favorable conditions for Mexican enterprises to boost agricultural exports to the Vietnamese market. Vietnam highly values its relationship with Mexico and aims to further advance cooperation via parliamentary, economic, cultural, and people-to-people channels, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai. According to the VCCI, these measures are not only necessary for managing potential risks arising from US trade actions but also crucial to enhancing competitiveness and meeting growing international expectations on compliance, product origin, quality, and transparency. Businesses say the biggest obstacle to reducing emissions and transforming production models remains the lack of financial resources needed to upgrade technologies, modernise production lines, and build governance systems that comply with global sustainability standards. A transparent and stable legal environment with outstanding incentives is expected to create a new wave of investment and help turn the marine economy into a key driver of Vietnam's ambition for double-digit economic growth. As an active WTO member, Vietnam has been making active contributions to the organisation's agenda, including ratifying the first phase of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, negotiating entry into the expanded Information Technology Agreement (ITA2), and preparing for its next Trade Policy Review scheduled for late 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang said.
