Rain to continue strongly in the next 2 days, 4 rivers may reach warning level, some areas warned of flooding

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) warned today, August 7, that as the monsoon is strengthening over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, rain is expected to continue in some states and regions in the next two days, and the Chindwin, Sittoung, Salween, and Myitnge rivers may reach their warning levels. Regarding the potential for river flooding, the Chindwin River may reach its warning level in the cities of Phawngpyin, Mawlik, Kalaywa, Min Kin, and Monywa within the next 24 to 36 hours, and the Myitnge River may reach its warning level in Myitnge city within the next 36 hours. Furthermore, the Salween River may exceed its warning level in Hpa-an city within the next day, and although the Sittoung River's water level may slightly recede in Madauk city, it is expected to remain above its warning level. In the Ayeyarwady, Bago, Tanintharyi, Kayin, Mon, and Shan (Eastern) regions, which are currently experiencing flooding, rain is expected to continue for the next two days. Additionally, widespread thunderstorms are possible in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay during the upcoming weekend holidays. Concurrently, strong cumulonimbus clouds are developing in Lower Sagaing, Magway, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, Ayeyarwady, Tanintharyi, Kachin, Chin, Kayin, Mon, and Shan states, which may lead to squalls and thunderstorms along the path of these clouds. In the delta region, along the Rakhine coast, and offshore marine areas, squally winds are expected, with speeds ranging from 25 to 30 miles per hour, and wave heights may rise to 7 to 9 feet, according to the DMH's release.
