Kampong Thom Province Cracks Down on Illegal Fishing Gear

Kampong Sen City in Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia, continues its crackdown on illegal fishing activities. On September 22, 2026, under the authorization of Mr. Chin Sithar, Director of the Kampong Thom Provincial Department of Fisheries, a joint force led by Mr. Yeng Yan, Director of the Kampong Sen City Department of Fisheries, and Mr. Sieng Hokkhuan, Commander of the Kampong Sen City Military Region, conducted inspections, prevention, and suppression of illegal fishing in the area east of Kompong Samrong village, Srayov commune, and the Bong Phait and Bong Veng areas within Kampong Sen City. As a result, the joint force dismantled and destroyed a number of illegal fishing gears on the spot, including 750 meters of mosquito nets, 10 mosquito net traps, 14 mosquito net pots, and 560 wooden stakes. Additionally, 22 kilograms of fresh fish were released back into the natural lakes to conserve aquatic resources. Mr. Yeng Yan disseminated information to fishermen regarding the prevention and suppression of illegal fishing in Kampong Thom Province, urging them to contribute to the protection and conservation of aquatic resources and to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources. He appealed to all fishermen to respect and comply with the laws and regulations concerning fisheries, to refrain from using prohibited fishing gear, and to participate in protecting conservation areas and local aquatic resource sources. He emphasized that the cooperation of fishermen and every citizen is a crucial factor in maintaining the sustainability of aquatic resources for the benefit of the people and future generations.
