Lao, Belarus Leaders Agree to Strengthen Practical Cooperation
Laos and Belarus leaders have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the conversion of existing agreements into practical projects that will contribute to economic opportunities and improved well-being for their people. Both nations acknowledged positive developments in political and security sectors and confirmed acceleration of cooperation in areas including economy, trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, and public health.
Lao and Belarus leaders have agreed to strengthen cooperation that brings practical benefits to the people of both nations. President of the Lao PDR Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith and President of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Alexander Lukashenko held bilateral talks on September 1 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus Summit. The two leaders focused on turning existing agreements into practical projects that will contribute to economic opportunities and improved well-being for their people. President Thongloun expressed his pleasure at meeting President Lukashenko again, stating that the meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen the traditional friendship and expand mutually beneficial cooperation between Laos and Belarus. He also expressed appreciation to the Belarusian government for supporting Laos' participation as an SCO Dialogue Partner, affirming that Laos will continue to contribute to the organization in accordance with its capacity and actual conditions. Both leaders highly praised the positive development of bilateral relations, particularly in the political and security sectors, and agreed to maintain regular exchanges of high-level and other delegations. They also reviewed existing cooperation and discussed ways to accelerate agreed projects in areas including economy, trade, investment, banking and finance, education, culture, tourism, and public health. The two sides agreed to make greater use of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms to advance practical projects. It is believed that stronger cooperation in these areas could create new opportunities for trade and investment, expand educational and cultural exchanges, promote tourism, and improve access to knowledge, services, and expertise for the benefit of people in both countries. President Lukashenko congratulated President Thongloun on his re-election and invited him for an official visit to Belarus at a mutually convenient time. In related news, Laos participated for the first time as an official Dialogue Partner in the SCO Plus Meeting held from August 31 to September 1. Additionally, it was reported that President Thongloun visited Astana, Kazakhstan on September 2 for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral friendship and expanding practical cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.
