Cambodia and Philippines Prioritize Economy and Trade in Bilateral Relations

Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has stated that economy and trade are the core of relations between Cambodia and the Philippines. He expressed optimism that Cambodia's agricultural products, particularly rice, will continue to see increased exports to the Philippines. This was disclosed by Mr. Chea Thireth, Spokesperson of the Senate, following a farewell courtesy call by Her Excellency Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Cambodia, on the morning of July 16, 2026, at the Senate's Palace of Harmony. The Ambassador was concluding her diplomatic mission in Cambodia. During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with the progress of Cambodia-Philippines relations during the tenure of the Philippine Ambassador, and he conveyed high optimism for the future of relations between the two countries. Her Excellency the Philippine Ambassador expressed her gratitude to Samdech Techo for granting her and her colleagues an audience and farewell. She highlighted that during her tenure, relations between Cambodia and the Philippines have clearly seen significant growth. This is particularly evident through the exchange of visits by top leaders of both countries, including the visit of the President of the Philippines to Cambodia and the visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet to the Philippines. The frequency of these high-level visits clearly demonstrates the strength of the relationship between the two nations. Furthermore, she noted that Cambodia and the Philippines are making strides together in expanding trade, economy, and investment, alongside enhancing people-to-people ties. The Philippine Ambassador also mentioned that the Philippines is interested in Cambodia's agricultural products and hopes for a continued increase in export volumes. Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the remarks on expanding economy, trade, and investment, coupled with strong political relations between the two countries. He also further encouraged an increase in direct flights between the two nations, aiming to foster more active people-to-people exchanges and strengthen friendship, especially through mutual tourism. Her Excellency Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo affirmed to Samdech Techo that Cambodia is an attractive destination for Filipino tourists. On this occasion, Samdech Techo, the Senate President, also raised the issue of the border between Cambodia and Thailand. He explained to the Philippine Ambassador, reiterating Cambodia's stance, that Cambodia adheres to resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border issue peacefully, based on international law and existing mechanisms agreed upon by both parties. Concurrently, Her Excellency affirmed to Samdech Techo that the Philippines, as the Chair of ASEAN, will strive to help promote the resolution of the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
