Cambodia Forecasts Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds This Weekend

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia has issued a forecast indicating a high probability of thunderstorms and gusty winds across the country from July 23rd to 25th, 2026. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure system covering the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, and the Cambodian sea, influencing the southwest monsoon. In the plains, temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 36°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and northeast. Areas including Battambang, Poipet, Pursat, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kampot, and the capital Phnom Penh have a 40% chance of experiencing thunderstorms and gusty winds. Potential impacts on agriculture and transportation networks are a concern in these regions. In the highlands, temperatures will range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 35°C, with winds from the southwest and west. Provinces such as Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, and Mondulkiri have a 50% chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds, raising concerns about infrastructure. Along the coast, temperatures will be between 25°C and 35°C, with winds from the southwest and southeast. Coastal provinces like Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep also face a 50% probability of thunderstorms and gusty winds, with sea wave heights expected to range from 0.50 to 1.50 meters.
