Thai Government Unfazed by Opposition's No-Confidence Threat, Emphasizes Accountability

Thanakoorn Wangboonkongchana, a list MP for the Bhumjaithai Party and former Minister of Industry, stated that the government is unconcerned by the opposition's threat to file a no-confidence motion when parliament reconvenes in August. He described the opposition's move as a right granted by the constitution and a good opportunity for the opposition to scrutinize the government. He criticized some opposition arguments as "all water, no substance," urging for fact-based discussions. Thanakoorn expressed confidence that all ministers can explain the issues, which he believes can be somewhat anticipated. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the government are working diligently daily, and the government's support in parliament is solid, thus there is nothing to worry about. He added that after the no-confidence debate, he hopes the opposition will listen to the government's reasons. However, if they believe there is clear evidence of corruption or are concerned about public perception, they are welcome to file a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The government remains ready to be investigated on all matters. The government is confident it has done nothing wrong, and particularly the Prime Minister sees this as an opportunity to clarify information that the opposition has been distorting. Thanakoorn urged the opposition to prepare their information well, rather than resorting to time-wasting, unsubstantiated, or weightless rhetoric.
