Cambodia Heavily Reliant on Imported Medicines Despite Local Factories
Cambodia continues to rely heavily on imported medicines, with domestic production meeting only about 10% of demand. Despite having around 10 pharmaceutical factories, their production capacity is limited. In the first eight months of this year, Cambodia imported nearly $242 million worth of medicines, a 6.84% increase year-on-year, primarily from countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and South Korea.
Despite the presence of several pharmaceutical factories in Cambodia, the country's production capacity remains limited, leading to a heavy reliance on imported medicines. In the first eight months of this year, Cambodia reportedly imported approximately $242 million worth of medicines for treatment and supplements. This figure represents a growth of about 6.84% compared to the same period last year, indicating a continued high dependence on foreign pharmaceutical products. Cambodia has around 10 pharmaceutical factories capable of producing over 200 types of medicines. However, these domestic factories can only supply about 10% of the total demand.
