Suspect Arrested for Attempted Theft and Assault on Foreign Property Owner in Cambodia

A suspect has been arrested in Kampong Speu province, Cambodia, for allegedly breaking into a property owned by a South Korean couple and attempting to cut electrical cables. The suspect injured the owner with a knife before fleeing but was later identified and apprehended. The incident occurred in the early hours of September 22, 2026, at a property known as 'Garden of Hope' in Sendei commune, Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu province. The suspect allegedly entered the premises and attempted to cut electrical cables. The owners, South Korean nationals Park Jiyong (74) and his wife Kim Youn-sun (69), noticed the activity and pursued the intruder. During the pursuit, the suspect threw a knife, injuring Park on his right leg, before fleeing the scene. Following an investigation led by Colonel Khut Sophal, the district police chief of Samrong Tong, the suspect was identified as Uok Eiv, a 27-year-old male residing in Traok Veng village, Sendei commune. He was arrested on September 24. Uok Eiv confessed to the attempted theft of electrical cables and stated that he threw the knife because the residents shouted. Police confiscated two long-handled machetes and transferred the suspect to the district police station for further questioning. This incident highlights concerns regarding crime against foreign residents in Cambodia. With the increase in foreign investors and residents in recent years, public safety has become a key issue.
