Tebaw Bridge temporarily closed due to security situation as MNDAA, TNLA and PDF are active on the eastern side

MNDAA, TNLA and PDF are active on the eastern side of Tebaw Bridge and in the remaining village tracts, thus the bridge has been temporarily closed due to the security situation, said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Major General Min Thu. " The Deputy Minister said, "From August 10, 2024, terrorist groups calling themselves MDIA, MNDAA, and PDF launched attacks with overwhelming force, so the security forces temporarily withdrew. Then, the Tatmadaw columns carried out attacks and suppression operations to regain control of Tebaw town, which was temporarily controlled by the terrorists. As territorial control was regained on October 18, 2025, and civil servants were redeployed, local people were also urged to return and reside within Tebaw Township." "Although the Tebaw Bridge was passable in summer, rainy season, and dry season during peaceful times, due to the current security situation, only 11 wards in the town and nine village tracts are under control and passable. However, terrorist groups calling themselves MNDAA, TNLA, and PDF have not completely withdrawn and are still active on the eastern side of Tebaw Bridge and in the remaining village tracts. Therefore, due to the security situation, the Tebaw Bridge is currently temporarily closed for security reasons," the Deputy Minister said. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister replied, "For regional development, economic, social, and trade activities, regional stability must first be achieved. To achieve regional stability, the Tatmadaw, including security organizations, are currently prioritizing stability. Therefore, local residents currently living in the Tebaw region can only travel via the Namlan-Kyaukgu-Yatsohk road, which is safe and reliable." The Tebaw Bridge is located on the Mandalay-Lashio-Bhamo-Myitkyina road, and it was constructed over the Duwunthi River between mileposts 130/3 and 130/4, between the Panthaytan Ward and Pansawmiin village tract, leading to Tebaw town. The bridge is 569 feet long, with a 28-foot-wide roadway and a 5-foot-wide pedestrian walkway.
