A hit-and-run involving a luxury SUV, a Toyota Alphard, in Surabaya resulted in a severe chain collision. Thirteen vehicles, including 10 motorcycles and 3 cars, were damaged, with four individuals sustaining serious injuries. The driver is suspected to have been drowsy or under the influence of medication.

A severe chain collision occurred in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Wednesday afternoon (9/9) after a Toyota Alphard allegedly ran a red light and fled the scene. The incident, which took place on Jalan Menur Pumpungan, Sukolilo District, resulted in damage to three cars and 10 motorcycles, with four individuals reportedly sustaining serious injuries. According to Jeriko (26), a witness and victim, the incident began when the Alphard, bearing license plate N 1882 NCI, collided with a vehicle at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Arif Rahman Hakim. Instead of stopping, the Alphard allegedly sped away towards Jalan Menur Pumpungan. "It started at the red light there, it was hit by the Alphard first. Then, the Alphard fled," Jeriko stated at the scene. The Alphard's flight was reportedly halted by traffic congestion. "It got jammed, it stopped. It didn't stop like a normal car, the accelerator was pressed. Two minutes after it started moving, everything from behind was rammed," he explained. Jeriko, who was riding a Honda Vario motorcycle, was among those hit from behind, sustaining severe damage to his vehicle. "Yes, they were all rammed from behind without honking, until it stopped and hit a white car [Honda Yaris]," he said. Several victims suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the Haji General Hospital. "No one died, just injuries. But there were about four serious injuries, one of them a package delivery man, his head was severely injured," he revealed. Another victim, Naufal (19), corroborated the account, adding that the Alphard had also hit a car at the previous traffic light. Information circulating at the scene suggested the Alphard driver might have been drowsy or under the influence of medication. Observations at the scene showed the black Alphard with its front end damaged and windshield shattered. In front of it was a white Honda Yaris, also with front and rear damage. Surrounding it were about a dozen damaged motorcycles and a damaged food cart. Police arrived and took the suspected driver into custody. Ipda Bambang Sutrisno, Head of the Sukolilo Police Traffic Unit, confirmed that five victims sustained injuries and were taken to Haji Hospital. The Alphard's owner was secured by the Sukolilo Police. Sutrisno stated that the Alphard first hit a food cart before veering into three parked cars and then colliding with the motorcycles. In total, 13 vehicles were involved: three cars and ten motorcycles. Regarding the driver's condition, Bambang noted that it was too early to confirm intoxication, but the driver was being investigated. He reiterated that there were no fatalities, only injuries ranging from minor to serious. Source: CNN Indonesia
