Cambodian Students Develop Solar Greenhouse System to Boost Agriculture
Students from Cambodia's National Institute of Vocational Training (NTTI) have developed a solar-powered greenhouse system aimed at easing the burden on farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector. This innovative project is expected to contribute to the modernization of Cambodian agriculture.
Students at the National Institute of Vocational Training (NTTI) in Cambodia have launched an innovative project aimed at advancing the agricultural sector and alleviating the burden on farmers. Their creation is a "solar greenhouse system," designed to improve upon traditional farming methods by utilizing solar energy, a renewable resource. Samoun Toidoy, a representative student, who majors in electrical engineering, deeply understands agricultural challenges, stemming from his own family's background as farmers. He stated, "My parents are also farmers, and they worked very hard using traditional methods. Therefore, I wanted to use the knowledge and skills I've learned to develop a new system that can achieve more efficient and profitable agriculture. This system will enable greater yields with less effort, changing the way farming is done." This solar greenhouse system was developed over three months with the guidance of NTTI instructors. The students' creativity and enthusiasm were showcased at the recent 9th TVET Day (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Day), attracting significant interest and support from many farmers. The 9th TVET Day, held from June 15-16, 2026, under the theme "TVET Provides Skills, Employment, and Income," was attended by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who emphasized the importance of vocational training in Cambodia. The students' current initiative serves as an excellent example of how TVET education can contribute to the development of the nation's key industry, agriculture, through practical technological advancements.
