Countries that have signed the "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women," including Myanmar, are implementing measures to eliminate discrimination against women and ensure equal rights, stated the Head of State, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. This was mentioned by the Head of State, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, in his opening video address at the ceremony for Myanmar Women's Day in 2026. Furthermore, he stated that efforts are being made to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 of the United Nations, which is gender equality, and to enhance the capabilities of all women and young women. Despite these efforts, the challenges faced by women worldwide continue to persist, he said. According to the "2025 Global Gender Equality Review Report for Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals" released by UN Women, it is projected that by 2030, approximately 351 million women and young women globally, representing 8.2 percent of the world's population, may continue to live in extreme poverty. He also stated that it has been found that one in eight women between the ages of 15 and 49 have experienced domestic violence, and it is necessary to work together to reduce these instances.
