Phnom Penh Authorities Order Urgent Probe into Alleged Bribery by Commune Official

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations that a commune official in Prey Veng commune, Dangkao district, demanded 10,000 riels (approximately $2.50 USD) for the issuance of a document. Dou Sampath, spokesperson for the Phnom Penh administration, confirmed the directive. Reports indicate that the official allegedly requested the sum for signing a specific document. Governor Khuong Sreng has instructed the district administration to immediately examine the case and gather detailed information. He emphasized that if the alleged demand for payment is proven true, it would be considered a violation of the inter-ministerial fee schedule and would be dealt with strictly according to the law, without exception. Corruption and misconduct by public officials remain a significant concern in Cambodia, and the government has been signaling its intent to strengthen enforcement measures to restore public trust.
