Can Tho City Hears Constituents After Legislative Session

On July 15, the People's Council of Can Tho City organized an online meeting with constituents from 103 communes and wards, following the conclusion of its 3rd session (mid-year regular session of 2026). During the meeting, the City People's Council informed constituents about the outcomes of the 3rd session, disseminated the resolutions that were passed, and reported on the socio-economic development, national defense, and security situation in the first six months of the year, along with key tasks and solutions for the latter half of 2026. Constituents highly appreciated the city's development achievements in recent times and raised numerous issues directly related to people's livelihoods. Sixteen points were noted, focusing on social security policies, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, administrative organization, and administrative reform. They also requested the electricity sector to strengthen measures to ensure electrical safety during the rainy and stormy season. Constituents also proposed reviewing policies and regimes for personnel working in hamlets and areas after mergers, and supplementing staffing for communes and wards to cope with the increasing workload. They also called for investment in rural transport and repairs to housing for policy beneficiaries facing difficult circumstances. Furthermore, many opinions addressed the high prices of agricultural materials, impacting farmers' incomes, and requested increased inspections and penalties for violations in the trade of agricultural materials. Constituents also proposed increasing support for forces involved in grassroots security and order protection. Regarding infrastructure, constituents urged the city to continue investing in upgrading Cai Rang floating market, expedite the progress of transport projects, and repair dikes and irrigation systems for agricultural production. Additionally, the healthcare sector was asked to research home-based health check-up formats or suitable solutions for the elderly and those with mobility difficulties. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Member of the Central Party Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Council, requested the City People's Committee and relevant departments to focus on synchronously, decisively, and effectively implementing the People's Council's resolutions on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the latter half of 2026. He also stressed the strict adherence to commitments made during the questioning session. Regarding constituents' opinions, the Chairman of the People's Council urged the City People's Committee and related agencies to continue receiving, promptly resolving, and addressing them within their authority and legal provisions, preventing prolonged issues and contributing to consolidating public trust and enhancing the effectiveness of all levels of government.
