Power and Energy Ministry announces leniency for those using electricity illegally

It has been announced by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy that if those who are using electricity through illicit means contact them, measures such as not cutting off the power supply and collecting only 50 percent of the compensation will be carried out with leniency. The ministry stated that currently, those who are illegally obtaining and using electricity through illicit means are being urged to contact the respective departments and inform them. It is understood that the lenient measures include exemption from power disconnection, exemption from the demand for a fine of K 300,000, exemption from prosecution in accordance with the Electricity Law of 2014, and collecting only 50% of the original stipulated amount when calculating compensation for illegal electricity acquisition and usage. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy has announced that electricity consumers who have engaged in illegal electricity acquisition and usage through illicit means are urged to contact the relevant departments by July 31, 2026, and inform them, and that leniency will be provided if they do so. It has also announced that if illegal electricity usage is detected by Control Centers after the said period has passed, measures such as paying fines in accordance with the prescribed Electricity Laws, suspending or canceling meter usage rights for a limited period, and revoking business licenses will be carried out. The ministry has announced and notified that as illegal electricity acquisition and usage decreases and is eradicated, it will be possible to distribute electricity more extensively to those who have not yet received it, and therefore, cooperation is sought with empathy.
