Cambodian Red Cross Conducts Health and Safety Education for Displaced Persons

The Cambodian Red Cross, Banteay Meanchey Branch, has continued to implement health and safety education programs for displaced persons residing in displacement camps, focusing on supporting their health, psychological well-being, and living safety. According to Ms. Sok Leaphea, Director of the Banteay Meanchey Branch, these activities are based on the humanitarian principles of the Cambodian Red Cross and reflect the deep concern of its President, Samdech Kittipreah Bun Rany Hun Sen, for the welfare of the people. On July 30, 2026, 16 Cambodian Red Cross volunteers stationed in the displacement camp in Rung Cham village, Sla Kram commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province (specifically in Rung Cham settlement areas 5 and 6), conducted direct outreach education for 153 residents, primarily displaced families, children, women, and the elderly. The educational sessions covered a range of crucial topics, including methods for preventing dengue fever and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; prevention and care for cholera patients; psychological first aid for those affected by stress and displacement; awareness of unexploded ordnance and reporting procedures; and the new traffic law and safety measures for travel. Ms. Sok Leaphea emphasized the significance of local health and safety education, stating that it not only prevents disease transmission but also equips residents with the knowledge to better protect themselves, their families, and their communities. She particularly highlighted that for people living in displaced situations, understanding hygiene, mental health, and the dangers of explosive remnants of war are essential for reducing daily risks. Participants expressed their gratitude to the Cambodian Red Cross and the volunteers for their direct engagement, considering the provided knowledge highly valuable for their daily lives and confidence in maintaining their families' health and safety. This initiative underscores the Cambodian Red Cross's commitment to not only providing emergency assistance but also focusing on capacity building and long-term community resilience, in line with the high directives of Samdech Kittipreah Bun Rany Hun Sen, who consistently prioritizes the well-being of the people.
