Cambodia Joins Global Forum on AI Ethics, Digital Academy Contributes

Sen Sovath, President of the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT), participated in the 4th UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (GFEAI) held from September 14-17, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The forum, themed 'Transforming Global Cooperation for Ethical AI Governance,' saw the participation of ministers responsible for AI from over 52 countries, representatives from international organizations, research institutions, and the private sector, totaling over 1200 attendees. The global forum was jointly organized by Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority, and the International Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence Ethics. During the forum, Sen Sovath attended a closed-door ministerial-level discussion, where he shared Cambodia's progress, including the development of its AI ecosystem, strengthening governance and ethical frameworks, and outlining directions for responsible, inclusive, and human-centered AI development and utilization. Furthermore, Sen Sovath served as a speaker in a panel discussion on 'Financing and Partnerships for Ethical AI Governance.' He elaborated on national capacity building in AI, focusing on developing digital human resources, strategic infrastructure investment, and the development of data and AI ecosystems. Sen Sovath also held meetings with representatives from Asia-Pacific countries, including Mr. Abou Amani, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences at UNESCO. They exchanged experiences in developing AI governance in Cambodia, defined regional cooperation directions, and discussed support from UNESCO and relevant partners to promote responsible and inclusive AI development and utilization.
