From Top Student to IT Specialist: Former High Achiever Highlights TVET's Potential in Digital Era

A young Cambodian who was once a struggling student has now found a promising path in acquiring in-demand IT skills through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Bun Sokleap, 20, transformed his academic performance to achieve top grades and is now studying Information Technology at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC), formerly known as the National Technical Training Institute (NTTI). He believes TVET offers the practical skills essential for Cambodia's digital workforce. Sokleap admitted that he was not a strong student in his earlier years but changed his mindset in the 11th grade, diligently applying himself to his studies and eventually earning an 'A' grade, much to his family's surprise. After graduating from high school, Sokleap sought information on IT specializations and training institutions. Driven by his passion for technology and recognizing the current digital era, he concluded that IT skills would be a suitable choice for the Cambodian job market. He was also drawn to NPIC due to its modern facilities and laboratories that allow students hands-on practice. "Choosing a specialization in TVET has been a great choice for me," Sokleap stated. "Teachers here are dedicated to teaching both theory and practice, sometimes even emphasizing practical application more than theory." He further noted that TVET has numerous partnerships with companies, making it easier for students to find job or internship opportunities to enhance their capabilities. The institution also assists students with CV preparation and provides guidance before job applications. Sokleap shared three key tips for students preparing for exams: 1. Do not put too much pressure on yourself. 2. Practice exercises and lessons diligently. 3. Have a clear goal of what you aim to achieve in your exams. He encouraged younger students to enroll in TVET programs, highlighting the professionalism of the instructors, the availability of modern practical equipment, and the acquisition of skills that meet current market demands.
