Vietnam Enhances Maritime Industrial Ecosystem, Integrating Ports, Logistics, and Shipbuilding
Vietnam is strengthening the integration of its maritime sector, including shipping, shipbuilding, and logistics, under its maritime economic development strategy. Key initiatives include establishing a free trade port in Ho Chi Minh City and promoting investment in Quang Ninh and Khanh Hoa provinces, signaling a shift towards building a comprehensive industrial ecosystem.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW adopted on October 22, 2018, on the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's maritime economy, emphasized the need for coordinated development of maritime economic sectors, including maritime transport, shipbuilding, logistics services, and seaports. In line with this strategy, Vietnam is accelerating the development of its maritime industrial ecosystem. Ho Chi Minh City is planning the establishment of the Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Port Area, which is expected to enhance its function as a maritime trade hub in southern Vietnam. Quang Ninh Province in the north is focusing on developing its maritime industry by leveraging its geographical advantages. Khanh Hoa Province in the south is also actively promoting investment for the development of seaports, dry ports, and logistics centers. These initiatives signify a shift from merely maintaining production capacity to adopting a more strategic approach aimed at building a comprehensive maritime industrial ecosystem through deepened cooperation among related industries.
