Vietcombank Awards 7,350 Scholarships to Needy Students for New Academic Year

Vietcombank, a leading commercial bank in Vietnam, has launched the 'Cùng em tiến bước' (Moving Forward Together) scholarship program, awarding 7,350 scholarships to students facing economic hardship but demonstrating strong academic motivation for the 2026-2027 academic year. Each scholarship is valued at 1 million VND (approximately $40 USD), with the total program value reaching 7.35 billion VND (approximately $3 million USD). The funding originates from Vietcombank's commitment and contributions from its staff and customers during the national walking event '10 Billion Green Steps for a Sustainable Vietnam'. This nationwide walking event was organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day on September 2nd. The event saw over 1.77 million participants, logging more than 10 billion steps across 34 provinces and cities, and nearly 3,000 communes and districts. It also set a Guinness World Record for the most localities simultaneously organizing a walking event to raise environmental awareness. Vietcombank actively promoted the message '10 Billion Green Steps - Vietcombank Accompanies You,' encouraging its employees and customers to participate and contribute to social welfare through the 'Cùng em tiến bước' account managed by the Vietnam Fund for Children. From the achievements of this community journey, the steps taken for health and the environment have been transformed into practical resources, providing students with better learning conditions and confidence as they embark on the new academic year. The 'Cùng em tiến bước' scholarship program was rolled out concurrently in 34 provinces and cities nationwide, coinciding with the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. Distribution was facilitated through Vietcombank's network of 685 branches, the trade unions of its six subsidiaries, and in coordination with the Vietnam Fund for Children. In each locality, Vietcombank branches collaborated with schools to identify and select students who are economically disadvantaged yet possess strong willpower and a drive to excel academically. The scholarship awards were conducted transparently, ensuring they reached the intended recipients and were appropriate for the local conditions. Hong Quang, a member of Vietcombank's Board of Directors and Chairman of the Trade Union, stated, 'Each scholarship is not just material support but also an expression of faith and encouragement for students on their educational journey. Vietcombank hopes that the steps taken by the community today will provide further motivation for them to confidently move forward, nurture their dreams, and build a brighter future.'
