Vietnam Proposes 5 Key Cooperation Areas for ASEAN-Russia Partnership

Vietnam proposed five priority areas for cooperation to deepen the strategic partnership between ASEAN and Russia during the Russia-ASEAN Business Dialogue, held within the framework of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia. This initiative aims to promote peace, stability, and cooperation in the region. The five proposed priority areas include economy and trade, science and technology, culture and tourism, education, and sustainable development. Vietnam emphasized that cooperation in these fields can contribute to the economic growth and improved livelihoods of both ASEAN and Russian citizens. Specifically, in the economy and trade sector, the proposal focused on increasing trade volume, expanding investment opportunities, and strengthening supply chains between the two parties. In science and technology, the promotion of innovation, the development of the digital economy, and the fostering of joint research and development were highlighted as key areas. Vietnam underscored its significant past contributions to ASEAN-Russia relations and reiterated its commitment to further contributing to regional development through constructive dialogue and cooperation. This proposal aligns with Vietnam's multi-faceted foreign policy, pursued under its one-party system. With economic growth as a top priority, Vietnam appears to be seeking to diversify its supply chains and reduce reliance on Western nations by bolstering economic ties with Russia. Additionally, in light of its complex relations with China, strengthening relations with Russia is also considered important for stabilizing Vietnam's geopolitical position.
