Panama Offers Gateway Role for Vietnam's Latin American Expansion

At the invitation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Panama's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Arturo Hoyos, paid an official visit to Vietnam from July 26-29, 2026, holding the second round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries. The visit aimed to deepen bilateral relations between Vietnam and Panama, with a particular focus on economic cooperation and market expansion. Panama expressed its readiness to serve as a crucial "gateway" for Vietnam into the Latin American region. Panama highlighted its strategic position and established logistics and trade infrastructure as ideal for Vietnamese companies seeking to enter the Central and South American markets. The country offered a platform for Vietnamese businesses to streamline product exports and business development into the region, aligning with Vietnam's strategy to expand access to new markets amidst its continued economic growth. Furthermore, both nations discussed strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, aiming to enhance the appeal of each other's cultural and tourism resources and promote traveler exchange to further solidify economic ties. Panama reaffirmed its solidarity and friendly relations with Vietnam, expressing a commitment to building a substantive and effective cooperative partnership. This initiative is seen as part of Vietnam's diplomatic strategy to expand its global economic network beyond Southeast Asia.
