The Government of the People’s Republic of China has provided US$20,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to support flood-affected communities in northern Laos. The assistance was handed over at a ceremony at the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare on September 14, 2026, by Mr. Fang Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the Lao PDR. Mr. Phoxay Xayasone, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and Permanent Vice-Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, received the assistance on behalf of the Lao Government. Ambassador Fang expressed sympathy and concern for people affected by flooding in the northern provinces and reaffirmed China’s readiness to support Laos in overcoming the impacts of natural disasters. He said the assistance reflected the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the two countries. Minister Phoxay expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government and people for their timely support, saying the assistance would help ease difficulties faced by communities affected by the floods and support their recovery. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the funds will be used to purchase food, essential household supplies and medicines, as well as to support the repair of flood-damaged infrastructure. The ministry said the assistance would be delivered promptly and transparently to affected communities. Laos is currently hosting the 3rd Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) in Vientiane from September 14–18, 2026. The CCM review conference represents a critical milestone in turning political commitments into concrete, measurable actions. Several Lao companies and financial institutions have provided nearly 7 billion kip in financial and in-kind support for the 3rd Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (3RC-CCM). To facilitate smooth traffic flow and transportation for delegates attending the Third Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), traffic police officers have deployed personnel at various points in Vientiane. The Lao PDR hosted the 14th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Corridors Forum (ECF) in Vientiane on September 14–15, bringing together senior officials and representatives from the six GMS countries, international organisations and the private sector to advance economic corridor development and strengthen regional resilience. Luang Prabang Power Company Limited (LPCL), an associate company of CK Power Public Company Limited and developer of the Luang Prabang Hydroelectric Power Project, has provided medical equipment worth more than LAK 800 million to Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital to strengthen healthcare services for local communities.
