Cambodian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Urges Students to Pursue Technical Higher Education for High Job Market Demand

Wong Sot, Second Vice President of the National Assembly, has strongly encouraged high school graduates to pursue technical vocational education at the higher education level. This is because these fields are expected to have high demand in Cambodia's future job market, particularly as the nation transitions into an industrial country. He emphasized that acquiring these specialized skills will lead to early employment and future career development after graduation. Speaking at a meeting with outstanding students from the 2025-2026 academic year's high school graduation exams at Chey High School in Kamchay Mear district, Prey Veng province, on the morning of September 13, 2026, the Deputy Speaker noted that choosing a life path after high school is a crucial juncture for young people, determining their future. He also recommended that students from financially disadvantaged families consider short-term technical training courses. The government offers these programs free of charge, providing an opportunity for them to obtain recognized qualifications, secure employment quickly, and contribute to improving their families' living standards and the national economy. Currently, high-demand technical higher education fields in Cambodia include electricity, electronics, computer science, civil engineering and architecture, mechanics, automotive engineering, and air conditioning engineering. These disciplines are anticipated to have significant labor market demand both presently and in the future. According to a report from the Ministry of Labor, over the past three years, 61,233 students have graduated with technical degrees, nearly 50,000 have obtained technical master's degrees, over 160,000 have received technical qualifications from levels 1 to 3, and approximately 53,000 have completed vocational training certificates.
