British Woman Arrested in Pattaya Cannabis Farm Operator's Slaying

A 21-year-old British woman has been arrested in Pattaya, Chon Buri, on suspicion of murdering her boyfriend, the operator of a cannabis farm, after he was found fatally stabbed at a luxury rental home. Police were called to the residence on Thursday morning following reports of a violent incident involving a foreign couple. Officers discovered the body of Thomas David Powell, 34, in a bathroom with multiple stab wounds to his back and torso. He was believed to have been deceased for at least six hours. The victim's girlfriend, Isabel Violet Carreras, 21, was found near the body and appeared to be heavily intoxicated by cannabis, according to police. Investigators noted cuts on her fingertips and recovered a large knife, believed to be the murder weapon, which had been cleaned. While the woman initially claimed her boyfriend had injured himself, investigators found inconsistencies in her account, noting that the body appeared to have been moved and signs of a struggle were evident throughout the house. Powell reportedly managed a cannabis farm in Bang Lamung and had been in a relationship with Carreras for approximately two years, with plans to settle in Thailand. She reportedly told investigators they had gone to look at engagement rings before returning home and smoking cannabis together, after which she claimed to have no memory of the subsequent events. A British friend of the victim, alerted by a business partner in the United States who feared something was wrong, discovered the body and contacted the police.
