Cambodian Minister Emphasizes Local Visits Aim to 'Listen to Citizens and Solve Problems'

His Excellency Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information, emphasized that local visits are not merely a formality or a matter of organizing meetings, but rather an endeavor to listen to the citizens, identify problems, and resolve them. He stated that citizens are the true measure of the effectiveness of the working group. His Excellency made these remarks while presiding over a meeting to review the activities and results of the government's local working group in Kratie province for the first half of 2026 and to set future work directions. The meeting, held on July 25, 2026, at the provincial theater, aimed to strengthen work efficiency in line with government policies and respond to the actual needs of the people. Approximately 400 participants, including members of the government's local working group, provincial, municipal, district, commune, and village administrations, were in attendance. The meeting's objectives were to examine, evaluate, and summarize the work results achieved in the first six months of 2026, as well as to discuss challenges, obstacles, and establish practical solutions. His Excellency Net Pheaktra highlighted that the common goal is to transform government policies into excellent public services, improved living conditions, security, safety, and justice for the people in all localities. He praised the efforts of the government working group and local authorities at all levels who have collaborated to implement local outreach activities, serving the people and contributing to socio-economic development in Kratie province. The head of the working group advised all team members to continue strengthening cooperation with local authorities, engage closely with citizens, listen to their opinions, and resolve various challenges to ensure effective development that meets the people's needs. He also encouraged government working group members at all levels to continue performing their duties with a high sense of responsibility, solidarity, and close coordination with local authorities and relevant institutions, focusing on timely, transparent, efficient, and accountable problem-solving for the citizens. Furthermore, he urged all levels of local authorities to maintain security, order, and natural resources, and to effectively implement the 'Safe Village/Commune/Sangkat' policy, with a focus on drugs, juvenile delinquency, violence, traffic accidents, natural resource crimes, and deforestation. Concurrently, he instructed them to continue disseminating and implementing measures to prevent online fraud crimes according to the defined directions. During the meeting, His Excellency Va Thorn, Governor of Kratie Province, instructed local authorities and relevant law enforcement forces to expedite the issuance of Cambodian national identification cards to citizens in a timely manner, ensuring that every citizen possesses legal documents for accessing public services and fulfilling their rights and obligations under the law. The provincial governor also urged law enforcement forces to continue strengthening measures to crack down on illegal online gambling and all related illegal activities, absolutely forbidding their operation or clandestine practice within the province of Kratie.
