Two murderers and motorcycle robbers sentenced to death and 10 years imprisonment in Naypyidaw

AYEYARWADDY TIMES July 23 Two defendants who stabbed a man to death and robbed his motorcycle near the Thiri Yadanar Supermarket in Zabuthiri Township, Naypyidaw, have been sentenced to death and 10 years imprisonment by the district court. On July 28, 2025, Ko Kyaw Win Htun, 27, who was riding a motorcycle on Thiri Anawra Street 11, was stabbed to death and his motorcycle was robbed by Kyaw Htet Oo and Aung Thu Win (aka Ko Thu). The two perpetrators were apprehended on July 30 through CCTV footage. After more than a year of prosecution and trial at the Pyan Gyi District Court, both defendants were finally sentenced to death by hanging until death, along with 10 years imprisonment with labor, under sections 302 and 394 of the Penal Code on July 20 of this year. Since the military's unjust seizure of power, the economy has declined, commodity prices have risen, and the mechanisms of law enforcement and security have collapsed and deteriorated. Consequently, incidents of daylight robbery, murder and robbery, and theft are occurring frequently even in major cities, including Naypyidaw, where the General Headquarters is located.
