1476 Myanmar nationals detained in Malaysia to be repatriated on September 28 and 29 after original date change

It has been learned from the Ministry of Information that 1476 Myanmar nationals who were detained in Malaysia and facing difficulties returning to Myanmar will be repatriated on September 28 and 29, as the originally scheduled date was not feasible. It has been learned that the Myanmar government had been negotiating with the Malaysian government to repatriate 1476 Myanmar nationals, who were detained in immigration detention centers after serving sentences for illegal stay and other immigration violations in Malaysia and were facing difficulties returning to Myanmar, by Myanmar Navy vessels on August 27 and 28, 2026. However, the Malaysian side indicated that the transfer on the aforementioned dates was not feasible and proposed to reschedule the repatriation for September 28 and 29. The Myanmar government will therefore reschedule the trip for the dates proposed by the Malaysian side. It has been learned that the Myanmar government, in coordination with the Malaysian government on humanitarian grounds, was able to repatriate 1086 Myanmar nationals, who were detained in immigration detention centers after serving sentences for illegal stay and other immigration violations in Malaysia and were facing difficulties returning to Myanmar, for the first time by Myanmar Navy vessels in 2021. It has been learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the national government is giving special priority to the affairs of its citizens abroad and is continuously providing necessary consular assistance through the relevant Myanmar embassies and consulates general to assist and repatriate Myanmar nationals who are facing difficulties and hardships abroad for various reasons.
