Myanmar rice export issue to Poland, will seek guidance from relevant ministries

The Myanmar Rice Federation has announced that it will continue to investigate and analyze the issue of dead insects found in Myanmar rice exported to Poland, and will seek guidance from relevant ministries for necessary preparations and actions. According to a report by TVP News, dead insects and their remnants were found in 250 tons of rice exported from Myanmar, but the report did not specify the identity of the importer, the arrival date and time at the port of Gdansk, Poland, or the company that imported, distributed, and sold the rice. It is also reported that in Poland, 40 tons of Thai jasmine rice were detained in July of this year due to incorrect branding, and food products from Ukraine, China, Thailand, India, Brazil, South Africa, and Argentina are frequently inspected, according to TVP News. The announcement states that when exporting rice from Myanmar to European countries, including Poland, pre-shipment inspections and quality specifications are handled by third-party organizations. Myanmar's rice exporting companies export under the FOB (Free On Board) system in accordance with international procedures and international trade. Under the FOB system, the exporter is responsible only until the goods are loaded onto the ship, and thereafter, the responsibility for quality primarily lies with the buyer and the third-party inspection organization according to the contract. The announcement also states that delays can occur due to the long transit time on board, the importer's shipping arrangements, and the unloading of containers, among other factors. Myanmar rice exporters have been notified to pay more attention and strictly adhere to quality management systems. It is also reported that member exporting companies have been urged to conclude firm contracts with buyers in Poland and other European countries, as well as other rice-purchasing countries, and to clearly state and implement responsibilities and accountability regarding quality.
