Lam Dong Province Accelerates Identification of Martyrs' Remains
Lam Dong Province has directed relevant agencies to rigorously implement the '500-Day Operation' aimed at identifying and collecting martyrs' remains. To date, 1,384 sets of remains have been collected.
Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Ho Van Muoi, has signed a directive urging the Provincial Steering Committee 515, relevant departments, local authorities, and units to rigorously, synchronously, and decisively implement the objectives of the '500-Day Operation' to identify and collect martyrs' remains. The operation focuses on collecting DNA samples from unidentified remains at the Lam Dong Martyrs' Cemetery to determine their identities. Lam Dong Province is also accelerating the digitalization of information on martyrs within the province. Since the commencement of the operation, 1,384 sets of remains have been collected in just four months. Youth activities are actively engaging with this '500-Day Operation,' highlighting its significance. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the state prioritizes commemorating war victims and supporting their families. The identification of remains from prolonged conflicts, such as the Vietnam War (American War), is considered crucial for national unity and social stability. Such initiatives are often viewed as matters of national prestige, testing the execution capabilities of local governments. Lam Dong Province's directive is a concrete step in advancing this policy.
