Two Young Women Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Grandmother's Murder in Cambodia

Two young women in Phnom Penh have each been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of their grandmother. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court announced its verdict on the morning of September 10, 2026. The motive for the crime reportedly stemmed from the grandmother forbidding the granddaughters' romantic relationships. The accused, identified as Seng Chanbomy, 19, and Seng HenSanika, 18, have been granted the right to appeal the verdict according to the law. Recalling the events, on April 10, 2026, Nhean Borey, Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, charged the two young women with premeditated murder and sent them to the investigating judge, who ordered their provisional detention. Further recalling, on the morning of April 9, 2026, law enforcement officers from the Chbar Ampov District Police Inspectorate arrested two suspects, who were the biological granddaughters of the victim, for stabbing their grandmother, Ti Kong, 64, a shopkeeper residing at House No. 3A along Street 620, Kandal Village, Chbar Ampov II Commune, Chbar Ampov District, Phnom Penh. The motive for the killing was anger because the grandmother had forbidden them from having romantic relationships during their student years. The incident occurred on the morning of April 6, 2026, at House No. 3A along Street 620, Kandal Village, Chbar Ampov II Commune, Meanchey District, Phnom Penh. During questioning by the authorities, both suspects confessed that around 10:20 PM on April 5, 2026, they used a sharp knife to stab their grandmother once in the back, causing immediate death.
