Mother and Child Found Dead in Landak, Suspected Robbery and Murder

A mother and her four-year-old daughter were found dead in a forest near their home in Landak Regency, West Kalimantan. Both victims were discovered bound with tire rubber, and police are investigating the case as a potential robbery and murder. The incident began on Friday, August 7, 2026, around 11:00 AM WIB, when the husband, Hermanto, noticed his wife, Asniwati (39), and daughter, Dina Oktavia (4), were missing from their hut. Concerned, he enlisted the help of villagers to search for them. The search efforts, which began on Friday afternoon and involved dividing into groups to cover different areas, continued until late at night. Around 11:45 PM WIB, two bodies were discovered. Dina's body was found first in the bushes, and approximately 20 meters away, Asniwati's body was found. Autopsy findings revealed that Dina's hands and feet were tied with tire rubber, and she had bruises on her right arm. Asniwati's body was found lying next to a palm tree, also bound with tire rubber around her hands and neck, and covered with dry leaves. She also sustained bruises on the right side of her head. Initial police investigations indicate that valuable items belonging to the victims are missing. Approximately Rp 135 million in cash and about 30 grams of gold were reported missing from the scene. Kasat Reskrim Polres Landak AKP Kuswiyanto stated that investigators are gathering witness testimonies and thoroughly examining all findings from the crime scene to uncover the complete chronology and motive behind the incident. The police are actively pursuing the perpetrators and investigating who might have known about the victims' activities prior to their disappearance. This brutal crime in a typically quiet rural area has sent shockwaves through the community, with the missing valuables strongly suggesting a financial motive.
