Cambodia Accelerates Preparations to Host 25th VECONAC General Assembly

Cambodia is accelerating its preparations to host the 25th General Assembly of the ASEAN Veterans Confederation (VECONAC) and its related meetings, scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh in October 2026. On September 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Veterans and Ex-Servicemen Association of Cambodia, Kun Kim, presided over a meeting at the VECONAC Secretariat in Kien Svay district, Kandal province, to review the progress of preparations for the 38th Executive Board Meeting, the Business Forum, and the 25th VECONAC General Assembly. At the outset, the six working groups of the VECONAC Secretariat's specialized committees reported on their preparations and implementation, stating that they are 100% ready to host the VECONAC General Assembly, which will be held in Phnom Penh from October 3 to 7, 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Kun Kim highly commended the efforts of each specialized committee, noting their excellent performance and readiness in accordance with the planned schedule. He emphasized the significance of Cambodia hosting the 38th Executive Board Meeting, the Business Forum, and the 25th VECONAC General Assembly, especially given the evolving regional dynamics that require input and perspectives from ASEAN member veterans' confederation members. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed the specialized committees to meticulously prepare the necessary documents that will serve as input for the agenda of the 38th Executive Board Meeting, ensuring compliance with the VECONAC Charter. He urged all specialized committees of the VECONAC Secretariat to exert greater effort and attention to expedite various tasks and ensure the event proceeds smoothly and achieves positive outcomes before its commencement. The ASEAN Veterans Confederation (VECONAC) was established on December 19, 1980, with the mission to unite and promote the efforts of veterans' associations in Southeast Asia for cooperation that benefits veterans, including the wounded and their families, and contributes to peace, stability, harmony, and development in the region and the world.
