The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is preparing an initiative called We Buy From Indonesia to strengthen national trade and exports. Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie stated that the initiative is not merely a catalog but a technology and trade platform. Bakrie made these remarks on Friday, July 31, in front of President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) held at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta. According to Bakrie, many Indonesian products are already integrated into the global supply chain, with products from Indonesia being utilized by various global companies, including Tesla, Airbus, Kia, and IKEA. "This is an initiative that is not only a catalog but it is a technology and trade platform," said Bakrie. Kadin currently observes export values of around US$300 billion annually. Of this amount, approximately US$60 billion is generated from coal, stainless steel, and palm oil. The remaining US$240 billion comes from other sectors involving Kadin members spread across various industries. "Our task is how to increase purchases from existing clients at this time and increase capacity rather than the producers in Indonesia," Bakrie explained. The platform is slated to operate in three languages: Indonesian, English, and Chinese. Kadin is coordinating with ministries, particularly the Ministry of Trade, to ensure the accuracy of the data used. This data is also expected to assist the government in gaining a clearer understanding of Indonesia's export values. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with foreign economic diplomacy efforts. Kadin has also established the Kadin Global Engagement Office (Kadin GEO) to ensure that trade agreements and economic cooperation are optimally utilized by business actors.
