Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Jolts Occidental and Oriental Mindoro

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted parts of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro on Sunday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The earthquake occurred at 4:05 p.m., with its epicenter located 11 kilometers south-southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. The quake had a depth of 24 kilometers. Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin. No damage or casualties have been reported so far as a result of the tremor. The Philippines is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its high seismic activity. The areas around Luzon and Mindoro islands, in particular, are prone to earthquakes due to the presence of multiple fault lines.
