Cambodia and Cyprus Agree to Foster Cooperation to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Koula Sophianou, on September 17, 2026, agreeing to foster cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations. During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed Ambassador Sophianou and expressed his hope that bilateral relations between Cambodia and Cyprus would become even stronger and more developed during her tenure. In response, Ambassador Sophianou expressed her respect for Samdech Techo Hun Sen and highlighted the good relationship between the two countries. She affirmed her commitment to expanding and strengthening bilateral ties, particularly by seeking opportunities for cooperation in culture, people-to-people exchanges, and the economy. Samdech Techo Hun Sen considered cooperation in the economic, trade, and investment sectors as a key element for promoting relations between the two countries and encouraged both nations to continue exploring new opportunities and mechanisms to further develop investment and bilateral trade. He also expressed hope that the Republic of Cyprus would have opportunities to increase investment in Cambodia, contributing to the strengthening of economic ties between the two countries. This meeting demonstrates Cambodia's commitment to diversifying its international relations and seeking economic development opportunities. In particular, strengthening ties with Cyprus, a member of the European Union, could contribute to diversifying Cambodia's trade and investment landscape.
