DA to Distribute Fingerlings to Fishkill-Hit Fishpond Operators

SUAL, Pangasinan — The Department of Agriculture (DA) will distribute fingerlings to fishpond operators affected by fishkills across the country to help them restock their ponds and recover losses, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said. The DA also plans to acquire solar-powered aerators that will be provided to small fishpond owners to help them maintain water quality and prevent future fish kills. Fish kills, which are sudden mass deaths of fish, can be caused by various factors including pollution, high temperatures, and lack of oxygen in the water. These events can devastate the livelihoods of fishpond operators, who rely on their stock for income. By providing fingerlings, the DA aims to help operators rebuild their stocks and resume their operations as quickly as possible.
