Cambodia's Siem Reap and Preah Vihear Provinces Sign Agreement to Adjust Administrative Borders

The provinces of Siem Reap and Preah Vihear in northwestern Cambodia have signed an agreement to adjust their administrative borders. This accord aims to enhance the efficiency and smoothness of resident management and public service delivery. The signing ceremony took place at the Siem Reap Provincial Hall, with Governor Prak Sophorn of Siem Reap Province and Governor Kim Rithy of Preah Vihear Province affixing their signatures to the document. Following legal principles, the administrative authorities of both provinces engaged in discussions and reached this agreement after conducting thorough on-site surveys and verification. This border adjustment is being carried out in accordance with a directive from the Ministry of Interior, which aims to clarify administrative boundaries in areas where the lines between provinces, districts, cities, and communes have been ambiguous. The objective is to ensure clarity and efficiency in administrative management within these border regions, aligning with the actual conditions on the ground. This administrative border adjustment is seen as part of broader efforts within Cambodia to streamline local governance and strengthen the framework for delivering services to citizens. Previously, ambiguities in the border demarcation may have led to delays in administrative services or confusion among residents regarding their jurisdictional authority in areas spanning both provinces.
