23 Suspects Named in Central Kalimantan Forest Fires, Enforcement Continues

Central Kalimantan Police have named 23 individuals as suspects in 19 cases related to forest and land fires, or karhutla, handled under Operation Aman Nusa II 2026. The operation has been ongoing since July 21, 2026. Kombes Pol Budi Rachmat, Head of Public Relations for the Central Kalimantan Police, stated that law enforcement efforts continue to suppress the occurrence of forest fires in the region. "Law enforcement continues to be carried out as part of efforts to suppress the occurrence of forest fires in Central Kalimantan," he said. The Pulang Pisau Police jurisdiction recorded the highest number of suspects, with 10 individuals named in four police reports. Polresta Palangka Raya handled two reports with three suspects, while North Barito Police dealt with three reports involving two suspects. "Every report that comes in will be followed up according to the applicable legal processes and provisions," said Budi. East Kotawaringin Police handled two reports with one suspect. Kapuas, Sukamara, Gunung Mas, and Katingan Police each handled one report with one suspect. Lamandau Police handled two reports with two suspects, and South Barito Police and West Kotawaringin Police each handled one report with one suspect. The Central Kalimantan Police stated that the handling of cases is at various stages, ranging from investigation to closure. Budi said that legal proceedings will continue against any party found to have violated forest fire regulations. "Polda Kalteng is committed to enforcing the law against any party who is proven to have committed violations related to karhutla," he affirmed.
