Cambodia Conducts Awareness Campaign on Gender Equality and Climate Change
An awareness campaign on gender equality and climate change was conducted for residents in Samrong district, Oddar Meanchey province, northwestern Cambodia. The initiative aims to foster sustainable community development by enhancing women's capacity and promoting understanding of environmental issues.
An awareness campaign on gender equality and climate change was conducted for residents in Samrong district, Oddar Meanchey province. On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Ms. Im Kim Eung, Chief of the Samrong District Social Affairs and Social Welfare Office, in collaboration with representatives from the Oddar Meanchey Provincial Department of Women's Affairs and the District Committee for Women and Children's Affairs (CDWCA), directly visited the local communities. The campaign was organized in two key districts: Kun Kriel and Samrong. Ms. Im Kim Eung stated that promoting gender equality, strengthening women's capacity, and increasing understanding of the impacts of climate change at the grassroots level are crucial social development tasks. This aims to help citizens, especially women and children, prepare for adaptation and participate in environmental protection within their communities. The awareness and dissemination activities were held in Kun Kriel district, covering residents of Khtum and Chro Krom villages, and in Samrong district, for residents of Bak Nim village. Expert teams provided detailed explanations and guidance on the roles of men and women in family and social development, as well as the elimination of all forms of discrimination to promote women's full participation in decision-making and community leadership. The training also addressed the practical challenges of climate change (such as drought, floods, and abnormal weather patterns) and their impact on livelihoods and agriculture. Simple methods for water source conservation, tree planting, and family health protection were also introduced. Ms. Eung and the provincial officials emphasized the vital role of women, as managers of households and daily life, in leading adaptation measures and reducing risks from natural disasters.
