Cambodia Prays for Peace and Prosperity During Rainy Season Religious Ceremony

In Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, within the 7 Makara district, a religious ceremony was held ahead of the rainy season where local parliamentary representatives donated rainy season candles and offerings to three pagodas in the district. The event took place on August 1st, led by Dr. Ly Cheng, a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the 7 Makara District Party Working Group, along with his wife. The pagodas receiving the donations were Wat Preah Putth Mean Bun, Wat Sampeou Meas, and Wat Mongkol Vann, with the ceremony held at Wat Sampeou Meas. Dr. Ly Cheng stated that due to the peace in the nation, religious ceremonies, including Buddhist festivals, can be organized grandly and joyfully. He also noted the parallel development of both the religious and secular sectors, and mentioned that he annually donates offerings and rainy season candles to pagodas in accordance with tradition. Reverend Mao Nim, the chief monk of Wat Preah Putth Mean Bun and Deputy Chief Monk of the 7 Makara district, expressed gratitude for the noble gesture from Dr. Ly Cheng and his colleagues. He remarked that this activity is a significant contribution to supporting the development of Buddhism, which is the state religion of Cambodia and is practiced by the majority of the Cambodian people. Traditionally, during the three-month rainy season, Buddhist followers donate offerings such as rice, candles, incense, oil, robes, and other necessities to monks in pagodas. This ceremony symbolizes prayers for national peace and the continued development of both religious and secular spheres.
