The Department of Transportation (DoTr) said the long-delayed Unified Grand Central or Common Station is targeted to open by the first quarter of 2028 after securing approval from the Economy and Development Council to pursue a variation order with Light Rail Manila Corp. Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez said the agency is fast-tracking the project following the termination of the previous contractor over delays. The DoTr also said it would proceed with the LRT-1 Cavite Extension to Zapote and Niog even if negotiations with the Villar Group fail, provided government conditions on the right of way are not met. — AEOJ
