Investment opportunities to be presented at Thailand-Myanmar economic forum

(August 6) Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing, who is visiting Thailand, and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will present future visions for economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries at the Thailand-Myanmar Economic Forum 2026. The forum, held under the theme "A New Chapter in Thailand-Myanmar Economic Partnership," is being organized by the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Association today (August 6) at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. Businessmen, investors, and economic organizations from both countries will participate in the forum to build networks and exchange information with the aim of "New Economy, New Opportunities, New Development." Pisanu Suwanajata, President of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Association, stated that the forum is intended as an opportunity to rebuild confidence in the private sector, coinciding with the Myanmar military leader's visit to Thailand. "Thailand and Myanmar are neighboring countries with a long-standing relationship. The private sectors of both countries continue to maintain trade and investment relations," he said. Myanmar's Investment Opportunities to be Discussed The morning session of the forum will feature discussions on "Economic Opportunities in Myanmar," covering the current economic situation, market outlook, and potential investment sectors in Myanmar. Following this, a Business Clinic program will be held for investors interested in doing business in Myanmar, providing information on investment procedures, laws, company establishment, taxes, and benefits. This program is jointly organized by the Thai-Myanmar Economic Association and the Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). A key program of the forum will be special speeches by Prime Minister Prayut and Min Aung Hlaing from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM in front of Thai and Myanmar businessmen. Their speeches are expected to present future visions for economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries. Subsequently, panel discussions will be held to discuss the regulatory environment for the long-term development of businesses in Myanmar, the Thailand-Myanmar communication and transportation sectors, and new future investment sectors. Min Aung Hlaing's visit to Thailand is seen as an effort to enhance economic and investment relations beyond government-to-government ties. However, with ongoing military conflicts, political instability, and international sanctions in Myanmar, regaining investor confidence remains a major challenge. While Thailand is focusing on discussing Myanmar's economic opportunities, Myanmar's political and security situation will continue to be the main factor determining the future direction of economic cooperation between the two countries.
