Quang Ngai: Fish Fry Released to Restore Aquatic Resources in Tra Khuc River

Quang Ngai province in central Vietnam has organized an activity to release fish fry into the Tra Khuc River, aiming to restore aquatic resources and protect the ecosystem. On September 4th, at the Tra Khuc River dam site in An Phu commune, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the An Phu Commune People's Committee to carry out this initiative. Over 180kg of fish fry, including approximately 4,000 grass carp, 600 silver carp, 500 bighead carp, and common carp, were released into the river. The released fry were confirmed to be healthy and adapted to the Tra Khuc River environment. According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Binh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Tra Khuc River is a major river in Quang Ngai province, deeply connected to its history and culture. It serves as a source of water for production and daily life, and is home to many valuable native aquatic species. Notably, since the operation of the Tra Khuc River dam, positive changes in water conditions, landscape, and the ecological environment have been observed. The elevated water levels in the river create favorable hydrological conditions for the regeneration of aquatic resources and the growth and development of native aquatic species. In recent years, due to the impacts of climate change, environmental pollution, and overfishing, natural aquatic resources in the Tra Khuc River basin and the province as a whole have been declining, affecting the ecosystem and the livelihoods of local residents. In response, Quang Ngai province is strengthening the monitoring and protection of aquatic resources, ensuring the supply of quality fry, and promoting awareness among residents about the importance of developing aquatic resources and sustainable exploitation. This activity contributes to the recovery of aquatic resources, the protection of the ecological environment and biodiversity, and also facilitates the development of local livelihoods.
